The SECO 74034331 is a solid carbide milling insert with ANSI and ISO designation APKX160430R-ME12, designed for use in indexable milling cutters in metal-cutting operations. It features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, a positive rake angle of 24 degrees, and a TiCN coating applied via CVD process. The T25M manufacturer grade targets medium-grain carbide performance, and the ME12 chip breaker geometry optimizes chip control across a range of cut depths up to 0.622 inches. The insert uses a screw-holding method and is configured for right-hand cutting. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician installs this insert as part of a larger milling assembly.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The positive rake and honed cutting edge reduce cutting forces on difficult-to-machine materials such as austenitic stainless steels and high-temperature alloys. It is a single-sided insert with two cutting edges, making it practical for operations where tool cost-per-edge is tracked. Typical deployment is in horizontal or vertical milling setups running indexable face mill or shoulder mill bodies.
Confirmed compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-16 and R220.69-16. Material application includes steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, and S).
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide body or stripping the seat. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life.
