The SECO 74018885 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-F2 series, designed for finishing operations on steel and stainless steel components. It carries an ANSI insert code of CCMT21.50.5 and an ISO code of CCMT060202-F2, making it a standard geometry choice for CNC lathe and turning center toolholders. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under the TP40 grade designation, which delivers high toughness on steel (P) and stainless steel (M) and moderate wear resistance on hardened materials (H). With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, it suits light finishing passes where surface finish and edge integrity are priorities.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning applications in general machining environments. It is intended for use in CNC and manual lathes where CCMT-style toolholders are fitted. The F2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, handling typical finishing depths of cut up to approximately 0.246 inches. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P grade) and stainless steel (M grade), with secondary capability on hardened materials (H grade). The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholder setups.
Designed as a standard CCMT-geometry replacement insert for toolholders accepting CCMT21.50.5 (ANSI) or CCMT060202 (ISO) inserts with screw-clamping retention.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker pocket for debris before installation to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
