The SECO 74018658 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP40 manufacturer grade with a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which builds wear resistance and helps resist built-up edge at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and an F2 chip breaker geometry optimized for positive-rake cutting action. Cutting edge style is honed. With two usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it is a cost-effective consumable for shops running steel and stainless steel applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering material grades P40, M35, and M40. The F2 chip breaker geometry performs well across a range of depths of cut up to 0.2756 inches, making it applicable in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is installed via screw clamping and fits toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts. Machinists and CNC programmers in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments are the primary users.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-on toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and stainless steel (M). ISO code DCMT070208-F2 and industry standard number DCMT21.52-F2 apply. Compatible material grades include P40, M35, and M40.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
