The SECO 74018654 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for precision metal removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which improves wear resistance and extends cutting life on demanding materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Grade TP40 targets steel and stainless steel applications. With two cutting edges and an F2 chip breaker geometry, it suits moderate to heavier roughing and semi-finishing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers. Installation and tool changes are handled by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for production turning of steel and stainless steel workpieces in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The F2 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut up to 0.2244 inches. Its positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it a practical choice for medium-duty operations on general-purpose lathes and CNC turning centers. Multi-use capability spans turning, facing, and boring, allowing a single insert to handle several operations within the same setup. The neutral hand orientation accommodates standard right-hand toolholders common in production environments.

Insert changes should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat and torque the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert or damage the toolholder pocket. Inspect the pocket and screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. This insert is intended for installation by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with indexable tooling systems.
