The SECO 74018652 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It follows the CCMT21.51-F2 industry standard designation and carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN in the TP40 grade. This grade delivers high toughness on steel and stainless steel, and moderate wear resistance on hardened materials. The F2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, and the 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong, stable cutting edge. The insert uses a screw-holding method and features a honed cutting edge with positive rake and positive side clearance for clean, controlled chip formation. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for light finishing passes in boring, facing, and turning applications on steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and hardened materials (H-class). The CCMT series is commonly used in external turning and internal boring bars on CNC lathes and machining centers. With two cutting edges per insert, it offers an economical edge count for high-run production environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders without requiring a handed setup.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with standard ANSI and ISO CCMT toolholder systems for CNC lathe and boring bar applications in steel, stainless steel, and hardened material machining.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver for the insert clamping screw to avoid stripping the screw or cracking the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before installing a fresh insert.
