The SECO 74017616 is an SCMT-style indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN. Designed in the TP40 grade, this insert is suited for medium to rough turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The square insert geometry features a 90-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a honed cutting edge style. The F2 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. Four usable cutting edges maximize cost-per-edge efficiency. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-lock toolholders.
This insert is suited for general-purpose metal cutting applications including boring, facing, and turning. The TP40 carbide grade targets primary workpiece materials classified under ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel), covering material grades P40, M35, and M40. The positive rake geometry and honed edge reduce cutting forces and improve surface finish on both interrupted and continuous cuts in light to medium industrial machining environments.
Designed for use in SCMT-style screw-lock indexable toolholders compatible with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle square insert. Suitable for CNC lathes and manual turning centers performing operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clearance angle against the SCMT insert specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and tighten the retaining screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using an appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before securing the new edge to ensure proper seating and safe cutting performance.
