The SECO 74016849 is a solid carbide milling insert with the ANSI/ISO designation APFT160430R-M13, carrying a T25M manufacturer grade and a CVD-applied TiCN coating. It is a single-sided, right-hand, parallelogram-shaped insert (85-degree included angle) designed for use in indexable milling cutter bodies. The insert features a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and an 11-degree relief angle, providing clean chip formation and edge stability during interrupted and continuous milling operations. Two cutting edges are available per insert. It is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC and manual milling equipment.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. The M13 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-grain carbide applications where controlled chip evacuation is required across a range of cut depths up to 0.622 inches. Typical installation scenarios include face milling, shoulder milling, and profile operations on production and job-shop machining centers. The screw-holding method ensures positive insert location and repeatable edge indexing.

Insert replacement is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians following standard indexable tooling procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge geometry.
