The SECO 74016103 is a precision anvil designed for indexable insert toolholders. The anvil serves as the hardened seat beneath a replaceable cutting insert, absorbing cutting forces and protecting the toolholder pocket from wear and damage. It is a standard consumable component in turning, boring, and milling setups that use mechanically clamped indexable inserts. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this part during routine insert changes or when an existing anvil shows signs of deformation or pitting. The 74016103 carries a 0.5 inch insert inscribed circle (IC) size and matches toolholder insert size code 12, making it compatible with a defined range of indexable toolholders.
This anvil is suited for production machining environments where indexable insert toolholders see continuous or high-cycle use. Typical applications include CNC turning centers, manual lathes, and boring bars running standard negative or positive geometry inserts at the 0.5 inch IC dimension. The part is supplied as a single unit, appropriate for replacement of a worn or damaged anvil seat in an existing toolholder assembly. Its 1/8 inch thickness fits the standard pocket depth for this insert size class.
Designed for use with indexable toolholders requiring a 0.5 inch IC anvil seat at size code 12. Compatible anvil screw is CA3510 and compatible anvil key is 9/64 inch SMS875. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians as part of standard indexable toolholder maintenance. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder pocket. Remove the existing insert, clamp, and anvil screw before lifting the worn anvil from the pocket. Seat the replacement anvil flush in the pocket and torque the anvil screw and insert clamp per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications using the correct anvil key.
