Product Description

The SECO 74010718 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the TPU322 industry standard designation and SECO grade HX, this triangular insert features a 3/8 inch inscribed circle (IC), a 1/32 inch corner radius, an 11-degree relief angle, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry with a positive rake. With three usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, it is suited for demanding material removal where edge integrity and thermal stability are critical. Machining technicians and toolroom professionals install this insert in standard clamp-style toolholders.

This insert is primarily rated for superalloys and titanium (ISO workpiece material code S), with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials (ISO codes M, K, N, and H). Typical applications include back turning, boring, facing, and general OD turning. The flat-top geometry allows chip flow control in finishing and semi-finishing passes. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO designation of TPUN160308, making it compatible with toolholders specifying that insert pocket geometry. Material grades S10, S20, and S25 indicate the carbide substrate range covered by this insert.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate, bright/uncoated finish for low-friction cutting in superalloys and titanium
  • Triangular insert shape with 3 cutting edges for extended tool life per insert
  • 11-degree relief angle with positive rake for reduced cutting forces
  • Flat-top chip breaker geometry suited for back turning, boring, facing, and turning
  • Honed cutting edge style for improved edge strength and chipping resistance
  • Compliant with ANSI and ISO standards; ISO designation TPUN160308

Compatibility

Compatible with clamp-style toolholders designed for the TPUN160308 insert pocket geometry per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for material grades S10, S20, and S25 and secondary workpiece materials coded M, K, N, and H.

Installation Notes

This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
