The SECO 74003926 is a VBMT331-F2 series solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It carries a TP40 manufacturer grade with a multilayer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — applied over a carbide substrate to extend tool life in continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius (0.0157 inch), and a positive rake geometry with an F2 chip breaker. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the cutting edge style is honed for consistent entry into the workpiece.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, back turning, and profiling operations. Its primary workpiece materials are steel and stainless steel, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M. The TP40 grade and multilayer CVD coating make it appropriate for moderate to heavy-duty cutting conditions where heat resistance and wear resistance are required. The neutral hand configuration allows use in standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept VBMT-style inserts. It is commonly installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars with VBMT-style insert pockets. Accepts screw clamping. The insert size code is 331 and the ISO designation is VBMT160404-F2. Compatible with P40, M35, and M40 material grades per ISO classification. Verify pocket geometry and clamping screw size against the toolholder specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to maintain accurate tool geometry.
