The SECO 74001398 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade T25M with a CVD-applied TiC/TiCN/TiN multilayer coating that extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has a cutting width of 0.122 inches, an overall length of 0.354 inches, and a corner radius of 0.008 inches. Lead angle and relief angle are both neutral at 0 degrees, making it a straightforward drop-in for standard clamp-style cutoff toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert belongs to the SECO Series 150.10 cutoff system and is rated for universal primary workpiece material, code O, meaning it is suitable for a wide range of metals including steels, stainless alloys, and similar machinable materials. The chipbreaker designation is 12, which is appropriate for controlled chip formation during parting operations. The single-end design means the insert is indexed once before replacement. Clamp-style holding keeps seating repeatable and reduces setup time between index cycles. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 pieces.
Designed for use with SECO Series 150.10 clamp-style cutoff toolholders that accept a 3 insert size code. Verify holder slot dimensions match the 0.354 inch overall insert length and 0.122 inch blade width before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered off and all axes at a safe home position. Clamp the insert fully into the holder seat before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder specification. Do not exceed the insert width rating by forcing wider cuts in a single pass. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before each index to maintain proper seating.
