The SECO 63005200 is a solid cobalt tool bit blank ground to a rectangular profile and intended for use in lathe, shaper, and planer tooling setups where the machinist or tool grinder creates a custom cutting edge. Manufactured from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel, this blank delivers elevated hot hardness and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS blanks. The blank measures 3/8 inches wide by 5/8 inches high with an overall length of 4 inches, making it a standard-size blank suited to a wide range of toolholder and toolpost systems. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and skilled tradespeople use blanks of this type when a specific rake, relief, or nose geometry is required that is not available off the shelf.
This blank is suited to general-purpose and production toolroom applications where custom-ground single-point tools are needed for turning, boring, threading, or form cutting. The WKE45 cobalt grade is particularly appropriate for machining harder ferrous alloys, stainless steels, and heat-resistant materials that generate elevated cutting temperatures. It is supplied in a blank, unground condition and requires profile grinding before use in a cutting application.

Tool bit blanks must be profile-ground to the desired cutting geometry using an appropriate bench or surface grinder before use in a cutting tool application. Ensure the grinding wheel is rated for cobalt HSS material and that proper eye protection and wheel guards are in place during grinding. Secure the blank firmly in a tool grinder or V-block fixture to maintain accurate angles. Always inspect the finished tool edge for cracks or grinding burns before mounting in a toolholder.
