The SECO 63002110 is a solid cobalt tool bit blank ground to a rectangular profile, intended for use as raw stock in the fabrication of custom cutting tools, form tools, and single-point lathe bits. Manufactured from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel, it measures 6 mm (approximately 0.236 inches) wide, 8 mm (approximately 0.315 inches) high, and 70 mm (approximately 2.756 inches) in overall length. The WKE45 grade delivers elevated hot hardness and wear resistance, making it well suited for machining tough alloys, stainless steels, and hardened materials. Tool and die makers, machinists, and toolroom technicians grind these blanks to final geometry using bench or surface grinders.
This blank is used in toolroom and production machining environments where custom tool profiles are required that off-the-shelf insert tooling cannot address. Typical applications include single-point turning tools, threading tools, form tools, and fly cutters in manual lathe or milling setups. The rectangular cross-section seats directly into standard tool holders and boring bar shanks that accept flat-shank blanks. It is equally at home in job shops, maintenance departments, and educational machine shop environments where ground-from-blank tooling remains standard practice.
Designed as a general-purpose cobalt HSS tool bit blank for use in standard rectangular-shank tool holders, boring bars, and fly cutter bodies that accept a 6 mm by 8 mm flat shank profile.
Grinding cobalt HSS blanks to final geometry is performed by qualified machinists or tool grinders using aluminum oxide or CBN grinding wheels rated for high-speed steel. Always wear appropriate eye protection and use a properly dressed wheel to avoid thermal damage to the blank edge. Secure the blank firmly in a grinding fixture or tool rest before shaping. Allow adequate cooling between grinding passes to prevent annealing the cutting edge.
