The SECO 63001449 is a rectangular cobalt tool bit blank ground to WKE45 material grade, intended for use in custom tooling applications where machinists grind their own cutting geometry. The blank measures 0.157 inches wide, 0.630 inches high, and 6.299 inches in overall length. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel at the WKE45 grade, it delivers elevated heat resistance and wear performance compared to standard M2 HSS blanks. This uncoated, unground-edge blank is the starting point for single-point lathe tools, form tools, and special-profile cutters shaped to job-specific requirements.
This tool bit blank is suited for machine shops, toolrooms, and maintenance departments that grind their own tooling. It is appropriate for turning, boring, and profiling operations on manual or CNC lathes where a custom cutting edge geometry is required. The rectangular cross-section makes it compatible with standard square tool holders and lantern-style post holders. It is typically selected for harder workpiece materials where cobalt-grade toughness and hot hardness are required over conventional HSS.
Designed as a general-purpose tool bit blank for use in standard square-shank tool holders and lantern post holders that accept a 4 mm wide by 16 mm high rectangular bit profile.
Tool bit blanks are ground to final geometry by a qualified machinist using a bench or surface grinder with an appropriate wheel for high-speed steel. Secure the blank firmly in a tool grinding fixture or vise before grinding to maintain accurate relief and rake angles. Follow shop safety practices for abrasive grinding, including eye protection and proper wheel guarding. Ensure the tool holder set screw is tightened to the holder manufacturer specification before engaging the workpiece.
