The SECO 17016947 is a 4-flute, single-end square end mill ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating. It carries a 0.375-inch cutting diameter, a 0.375-inch length of cut, and a 2.125-inch overall length in a stub-length configuration. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction promote efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting at moderate to aggressive feed rates. The TiCN finish raises surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life across demanding ferrous and non-ferrous applications. This end mill is installed and used by machinists and toolroom professionals working in general manufacturing, job shop, and production environments.
This tool is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry, making it practical for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The stub-length body provides additional rigidity compared to standard- or long-reach configurations, reducing deflection in interrupted cuts or when working with harder materials. It fits standard 3/8-inch collet chucks and end mill holders found on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit end mill for standard 3/8-inch end mill holders and collet chucks on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers. Part of the SECO SPC408 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or quill is locked before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank to the recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches.
