The SECO 17016946 is a single-end, four-flute cobalt square end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating that extends tool life and reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. At 5/16 inch in diameter with a stub length of cut, this end mill is suited for light-to-moderate slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations where rigidity and accuracy are priorities. It is centercutting-capable, allowing plunge cuts into workpiece material. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The stub LOC of 5/16 inch minimizes deflection during aggressive cuts in harder materials. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration make it compatible with standard spindle rotation on vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. It is part of the SPC408 series and ships individually as a single-unit package.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out. Ensure the shank is clean and free of burrs before seating in the toolholder; proper seating depth prevents pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout after installation using a dial indicator — the maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inch. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety standards for recommended speeds, feeds, and coolant practice for the target workpiece material.
