The SECO 17016945 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding shop environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), this stub-length tool delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It runs a 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle and right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction. The center-cutting design allows both plunge and peripheral milling operations. The mill diameter is 0.25 inches with a shank diameter of 0.375 inches and an overall length of 2.0625 inches.
This end mill fits standard CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and similar milling setups where a stub-length tool is preferred for rigidity. The 0.25-inch length of cut makes it suited for shallow slotting, profiling, and face milling passes in materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (high-temperature alloys). The stub length reduces deflection relative to longer reach tools, which is useful when cutting harder or more demanding workpiece materials at tighter tolerances.
Designed as a stub-length single-end square end mill in the SPC408 series, compatible with standard collet and end mill holders accepting a 0.375-inch shank diameter. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys as defined by material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with toolholder torque requirements and runout verification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Verify TIR (total indicator runout) does not exceed 0.001 inches after seating the tool to maintain dimensional accuracy and tool life. Confirm shank engagement depth meets toolholder manufacturer minimums before beginning a cut.
