The SECO 17016588 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 5/8-inch diameter cutter runs four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree maximum helix angle, producing a shearing action that reduces cutting forces and heat buildup. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as standard peripheral milling. With a 1.625-inch length of cut and 3.75-inch overall length, it fits standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills alike.

This end mill is suited for roughing passes in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. It is a long-series tool, giving additional reach for workpieces that require clearance past fixturing or stepped features. The TiCN coating extends tool life in interrupted cuts and abrasive materials compared to uncoated cobalt tooling. Machinists and CNC operators use this style of roughing end mill when cycle time reduction is the priority and surface finish is addressed in a separate finishing pass. It is not designed for coolant-through delivery.

Installation Notes

Verify spindle runout with a dial indicator before taking roughing passes, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear unevenly. This tool does not support coolant-through delivery; flood or mist coolant applied externally is acceptable.
