The SECO 17016585 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it handles tough workpiece materials while maintaining edge integrity under heat. The 1/2-inch diameter cutter features 4 right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle, a 1.25-inch length of cut, and a 3.25-inch overall length. The shank diameter matches the cutting diameter at 1/2 inch, making tool holding straightforward with standard collets or end mill holders. This tool is center-cutting and designed for right-hand cutting direction.
The 17016585 is suited for roughing passes on ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces in job shop and production machining environments. The TiCN coating improves surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in interrupted cuts and slotting operations. The Series REC700 designation places it in a recognized roughing geometry family. This end mill does not include coolant-through capability, extended reach, variable helix, variable index, or a chipbreaker profile. It is intended for machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working on manual or CNC vertical milling machines and machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-procurement roughing end mill for standard 1/2-inch tooling systems on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the machine or holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut for the flute length indicated.
