The SECO 17016582 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. With a 3/8 inch cutting diameter and 1.5 inch length of cut, it suits applications where a long-reach profile is required. It is center-cutting, making it capable of plunge entry as well as peripheral cuts.
This end mill is suited for use in manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and production milling environments where roughing stock removal is the primary objective. The long flute series (REC700) makes it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations in materials such as alloy steel, tool steel, and stainless steel. It is typically selected by machinists and toolroom operators who need a durable cobalt roughing tool with TiCN coating to extend tool life under high-feed or interrupted-cut conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 3/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and side-lock holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the machine manufacturer's specification to prevent pullout under roughing loads. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool before initiating a cut.
