The SECO 17016581 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this end mill handles tough workpiece materials with improved heat and wear resistance. The 3/8 inch diameter tool features four spiral flutes with a right-hand cutting and flute direction, a 30-degree maximum helix angle, and a short-length configuration with a 3/4 inch length of cut and 2.5 inch overall length. Center-cutting geometry allows for direct plunge entry. This tool is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job shop environments.
This roughing end mill is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous material removal where a standard end mill would deflect or wear prematurely. The TiCN coating extends tool life in steels and alloys. The short-length geometry reduces deflection during heavy cuts. The 3/8 inch shank matches directly to standard ER collets, end mill holders, and hydraulic chucks in that bore size. It is appropriate for CNC vertical machining centers, knee mills, and similar setups where roughing passes precede finish operations. The chipbreaker-free design and spiral flute profile support continuous chip flow in open roughing cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 3/8 inch bore end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic toolholders on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state before changing tooling. Verify tool runout with a dial indicator after seating in the holder before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the toolholder's maximum RPM rating for the tool diameter.
