Product Description

The SECO 17016495 is a single-end ball end mill engineered for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating, it delivers extended tool life and wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 1.250-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 2-inch length of cut and a 30-degree medium helix angle, making it capable of both roughing and finishing passes. With 6 flutes and a right-hand cutting and flute direction, it maintains efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality in ferrous and non-ferrous stock. This tool belongs to the SPB540 series and features a Weldon flat shank for secure toolholder engagement.

This end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting geometry supports plunge entry as well as standard peripheral and slot milling. It is a stub-length tool, prioritizing rigidity over reach, making it well-suited for shops running shorter, stiffer setups on vertical or horizontal machining centers where chatter control is a priority. The Weldon flat shank is compatible with side-lock toolholders commonly used in production milling environments.

Key Features

  • Cobalt construction with TiCN PVD coating for extended wear resistance
  • 6-flute design with right-hand spiral flutes for efficient chip removal
  • 30-degree medium helix angle supports both roughing and finishing cuts
  • Centercutting capable — allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece
  • Weldon flat shank for positive engagement in side-lock toolholders
  • Rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temp alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S)

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard side-lock or Weldon flat toolholders accepting a 1-1/4 inch shank diameter. Suitable for vertical and horizontal machining centers running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloy workpieces.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the tool. Verify the Weldon flat is fully aligned with the set screw in the toolholder before tightening to prevent radial slip under load. Inspect the cutting edges and TiCN coating for chipping or wear before each use, and confirm runout does not exceed the rated TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches.
