The SECO 17016494 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for both roughing and finishing operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 1-inch mill diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral flute configuration with a 30-degree medium helix angle. The tool carries a TiCN (PVD) coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting environments. The 1-inch Weldon Flat shank provides a secure, slip-resistant connection in standard end mill holders. Overall length is 4.5 inches and the tool weighs approximately 0.3 pounds.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The short-length, center-cutting design makes it appropriate for both plunge entry and side milling operations in general machining and tool room environments. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. No chipbreaker, no extended reach, and no coolant-through provision, making this a straightforward, solid-body tool for conventional CNC machining centers and knee mills.
Designed for use in standard 1-inch end mill holders or Weldon-style collet chucks compatible with a 1-inch shank diameter. Part of the SECO SPB540 series; manufacturers catalog number SPB540-1.000-D2-B.3-Z4.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool holding and runout verification. Confirm the holder is clean and free of chips before seating the Weldon Flat shank, and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify TIR does not exceed 0.0010 inches after installation before beginning a cut. Always stop the spindle and follow lockout procedures before changing or adjusting tooling.
