The SECO 17016493 is a cobalt ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for finishing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It features a 7/8-inch mill diameter with a 4-flute, right-hand spiral flute configuration and a 30-degree medium helix angle. The TiCN coating is applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and surface hardness suited for demanding milling applications. Overall length is 4.125 inches with a 1.875-inch length of cut. This single-end tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, tool room, and production environments.
This end mill is intended for finishing cuts in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The short-length geometry and Weldon flat shank make it suitable for rigid setups in vertical machining centers and manual knee mills where minimal overhang is required. The SPB540 series is built for consistent performance in high-demand cutting scenarios where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives.
Designed as an OEM-style finishing end mill for use with standard 7/8-inch end mill holders and Weldon flat set-screw tool holders in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard end mill holder or Weldon flat collet chuck; the set screw must engage the flat fully before securing. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe lockout state before changing tooling. Verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.001 inches after installation to maintain surface finish quality and tool life.
