The SECO 17016491 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for milling contoured surfaces, slots, and profiles in metalworking applications. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-3/4 inch overall length. The 4-flute geometry supports both roughing and finishing operations. A TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating improves wear resistance and tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The 30-degree medium helix angle promotes smooth chip flow and stable cutting action. A Weldon flat shank provides secure tool holding in compatible milling chucks and collet holders.
This end mill is suited for use on vertical and horizontal milling machines and machining centers in job shop, production, and maintenance environments. Primary target workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional side milling. It is installed and applied by machinists and CNC operators working across general metalworking, tool and die, and precision-parts manufacturing.
Designed as an OEM-style cobalt ball end mill replacement compatible with standard 5/8 inch bore milling chucks, Weldon flat side-lock holders, and ER collet systems with appropriate reducing bushings. Suitable for use in machines accepting 5/8 inch shank tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully powered down and locked out before tool changes. Ensure the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the set screw in the tool holder to prevent axial pull-out under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating; maximum TIR is 0.0010 inches per specification. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feed-and-speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material before beginning a cut.
