The SECO 17016487 is a single-end ball end mill designed for material removal in milling operations across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating, it delivers solid wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding cutting environments. The mill measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 2-7/16 inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree medium helix angle support both roughing and finishing passes. A 0.375 inch Weldon flat shank provides positive drive and reduces slippage in the collet or end mill holder.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. It is well-suited for die and mold work, contour profiling, and slotting applications where a ball nose radius is required. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as lateral passes. It is part of the SECO SPB540 series, catalog number SPB540-0.250-F3-B.3-Z4, intended for standard-length tooling setups in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Designed as a standard-fitment replacement or working tool within the SECO SPB540 series for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank end mill holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully in the holder and tighten the set screw against the flat to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.001 inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut.
