The SECO 17016486 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. The cutter measures 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 2-3/8 inch overall length. A TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating increases surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in demanding applications. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation and surface finish. The 3/8 inch Weldon Flat shank provides positive drive and reduces slippage in the spindle holder.
This end mill is suited for roughing and finishing passes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The center-cutting geometry allows direct plunging into the workpiece, making it practical for profiling, contouring, slotting, and 3D surface work on CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with a compatible collet or end mill holder. The standard length design fits most conventional setups without requiring extended-reach tooling.

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a torque-rated end mill holder or collet chuck compatible with the 3/8 inch Weldon Flat shank. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool; maximum TIR for this cutter is 0.0010 inch. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines for speeds, feeds, and coolant strategy for the workpiece material being machined.
