The SECO 17016464 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), this tool delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 1.5-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and six spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry suit conventional and climb milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys. Machinists and tool-and-die shops running manual or CNC milling machines are the primary users of this tool.
The 17016464 is part of the SECO SPC408 series and is configured as a stub-length end mill, which promotes rigidity during aggressive cuts. The 1.25-inch shank diameter allows direct mounting in standard ER or Weldon-style holders sized to match. Its centercutting design permits plunge cutting as well as peripheral and slot milling. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces, profiling hard cast iron components, and general-purpose milling of non-ferrous and high-temp alloy parts in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 1.25-inch shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys per SECO SPC408 series application data.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state. Seat the 1.25-inch shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge does not exceed the 0.001-inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
