The SECO 17016461 is a single-end square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers strong wear resistance and heat tolerance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutter measures 1.25 inches in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut and a 1-inch shank diameter, giving it a rigid setup in standard milling chucks and collets. Six spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 17016461 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its short-length configuration — 4.5 inches overall — keeps overhang minimal and supports stable cuts in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. The SPC408 series designation identifies it within SECO's cobalt end mill line for general-purpose and semi-finishing work. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry match the standard spindle rotation of the vast majority of milling setups.
Designed for use in standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 1-inch shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per SECO SPC408 series specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the holder or collet. Verify shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Use appropriate coolant or cutting fluid delivery per shop practice; this tool does not feature through-coolant capability.
