The SECO 17016460 is a single-end square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life in abrasive and high-heat cutting environments. The cutter features a 1.25-inch mill diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 1-inch shank diameter, with a 4.5-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. The centercutting geometry allows plunge milling in addition to peripheral cuts. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job shop environments.
The 17016460 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its TiCN coating reduces friction and resists built-up edge, making it effective on difficult-to-machine materials including austenitic stainless and nickel-based alloys. The short length-of-cut profile provides rigidity for slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling operations where deflection must be minimized. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry match standard spindle configurations on conventional and CNC vertical machining centers.
Belongs to SECO series SPC408. The 1-inch shank diameter fits standard ER, Weldon, and hydraulic toolholders with a 1-inch bore. Designed for use on conventional and CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), aluminum and non-ferrous (ISO N), and high-temperature alloys (ISO S).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before installing or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Secure the shank to the published toolholder torque specification for the holder type in use; do not exceed clamping force limits that could distort the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cutting — the maximum TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches.
