The SECO 17016456 is a single-end, square profile cobalt end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a TiCN coating that increases surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on tough workpiece materials. The 6-flute configuration and 30-degree right-hand spiral helix deliver smooth chip evacuation and stable cutting at higher feed rates. At 1.25 inches in diameter with a 3-inch length of cut and 5.5 inches overall length, this tool fits standard milling chucks and collet holders sized for a 1.25-inch shank. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry without a pilot hole.
This end mill is well suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys across a range of roughing and finishing operations. The short flute length-to-diameter ratio improves rigidity when machining deep slots or pockets in production environments. The tool belongs to the SPC408 series and is packaged and sold as a single unit, making it appropriate for job shops and maintenance machining alike. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and slotting on vertical machining centers and knee mills.
Designed for use in standard milling machine spindles and toolholders accepting a 1.25-inch straight shank. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloy workpieces as identified by material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool path program is cleared before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or milling chuck to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as maximum TIR for this tool is rated at 0.0010 inches.
