The SECO 17016455 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for extended tool life, this cutter features a 1.25-inch diameter, a 6-inch length of cut, and an 8.5-inch overall length. The right-hand, spiral flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. With centercutting capability, it can be used for plunge, slot, and peripheral milling operations. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC machine shops are the primary installers and users of this tool.
The 17016455 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its TiCN coating provides improved hardness and lubricity compared to uncoated tooling, making it effective in applications where tool wear is a concern. The extended 6-inch length of cut supports deep-pocket and long-reach milling on machining centers and manual mills. The Series SPC408 designation places it within a consistent family of cobalt end mills intended for general-purpose and challenging metalworking environments.
Compatible with standard ER, Weldon, or hydraulic toolholders accepting a 1.25-inch straight shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a fractional-inch collet or end mill holder of matching bore is used. Workpiece material compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per Series SPC408 specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a properly sized and clean toolholder before tightening. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.001-inch TIR maximum specification after mounting. Follow the machine manufacturer and ANSI B11 series safety standards for tooling changes and operating speeds.
