The SECO 17016451 is a single-end square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (titanium carbonitride), this tool delivers increased hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS end mills. It features a 1.125-inch cutting diameter, a 4-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry with 6 flutes for smooth chip evacuation. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this series for roughing and finishing passes where extended reach and flute length are required.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its centercutting design allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole, making it versatile for slotting, peripheral milling, and pocket operations. The long-series SPC408 configuration provides the reach needed for deep-cavity work and applications where standard-length end mills fall short. It is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines with appropriate spindle speeds and feeds for the workpiece material.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1-inch shank in a collet or end mill holder rated for the shank diameter, ensuring proper runout within the specified TIR maximum of 0.001 inches. Always confirm the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Select cutting parameters — speeds, feeds, and depth of cut — appropriate to the workpiece material and machine rigidity; consult the applicable speeds-and-feeds reference for cobalt end mills before beginning the cut.
