The SECO 17016446 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for material removal operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for enhanced wear resistance and surface hardness, it operates at a 1 inch cutting diameter with a 2 inch length of cut. The 6-flute spiral geometry and 30-degree helix angle support smooth chip evacuation and reduced chatter at higher feed rates. Centercutting capability allows the tool to plunge directly into a workpiece. This end mill suits production shops and maintenance machining environments where tool life and cut quality on harder materials are priorities.
The 17016446 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Its short-length designation and rigid 1 inch shank make it appropriate for vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines where overhang must be minimized. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional and climb milling passes. This tool is typically used by machinists, toolroom technicians, and production mill operators.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 1 inch straight shank, within the SECO SPC408 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the set screws or collet to the machine and holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
