The SECO 17016442 is a single-end, 4-flute square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, it handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys. The 1 inch mill diameter pairs with a 3 inch length of cut and a 5.5 inch overall length. A 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and helps maintain surface finish across a range of cutting conditions. This tool is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts in addition to peripheral milling.
The 17016442 is suited for job shop and production machining environments where a general-purpose cobalt end mill handles varied material types. It fits manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills running right-hand spindle rotation. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and stepped shoulder milling in steel and stainless components. The TiCN coating provides wear resistance and reduced built-up edge compared to uncoated cobalt tooling, making it a practical choice where longer tool life between changes matters.
Part of the SECO SPC408 series. Designed for use in standard 1 inch bore end mill holders, collet chucks, and side-lock holders on vertical and horizontal machining centers or manual knee mills with right-hand spindle rotation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or measuring tools. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
