The SECO 17016440 is a single-end square end mill engineered for demanding metal-removal applications across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers superior hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.8750 inches in diameter with a 3.5-inch length of cut and a 5.75-inch overall length, giving it the reach needed for deeper pocketing and slotting operations. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This tool belongs to SECO Series SPC408 and is intended for professional machinists and toolroom applications.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. Its long-flute design makes it a practical choice for deep-cavity milling, side milling, and slotting where extended reach is required. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional vertical and horizontal milling machines as well as CNC machining centers. Applications typically include job shops, production machining, and maintenance-repair-and-overhaul environments where versatile ferrous-capable tooling is kept on hand.
Rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. Compatible with standard 7/8-inch collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style side-lock holders used on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for toolholder torque and runout. Verify the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the end mill. Confirm the holder bore and shank are clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Maximum TIR for this cutter is 0.0010 inches, so runout should be checked at setup and corrected before cutting to protect edge life.
