The SECO 17016439 is a single-end square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life in abrasive and high-heat cutting conditions. The cutter measures 7/8 inch in diameter with a 1-7/8 inch length of cut and a 4-1/8 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The centercutting geometry allows plunge milling in addition to standard peripheral and slot cuts. This is a short-length series tool in the SPC408 line.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The TiCN coating provides a harder surface layer and lower friction compared to uncoated cobalt tooling, making it well-suited for production environments where tool life and surface finish matter. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional vertical and horizontal milling setups. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for standard 7/8 inch collet or end mill holder setups on vertical mills, machining centers, and similar equipment. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per SECO material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a compatible end mill holder or collet chuck rated for a 7/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify runout against the published TIR maximum of 0.0010 inch after seating the tool. Follow your machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards for speeds, feeds, and coolant setup — no coolant-through capability is present on this tool.
