Product Description

The SECO 17016429 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for demanding metal-removal operations in machine shops and manufacturing environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating that increases surface hardness and extends tool life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 4-inch length of cut, a 0.625-inch shank diameter, and a 6.125-inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a centercutting tool, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece.

The 17016429 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys across its full range of compatible workpiece material codes (P, M, K, N, S). Its regular-length profile fits standard milling setups on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual bridgeport-style machines. The 4-inch length of cut accommodates deep slot milling, profiling, and peripheral cutting applications where extended reach is not required. It is sold and shipped as a single unit.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt HSS construction for elevated heat and wear resistance over standard M2 tooling
  • TiCN coating increases surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on ferrous and high-temp materials
  • Centercutting design allows plunge milling without a pre-drilled pilot hole
  • 4-flute, 30-degree right-hand spiral geometry balances cutting speed with chip clearance
  • Single-end configuration with 0.625-inch straight shank for direct collet or end-mill holder mounting
  • No coolant-through requirement — compatible with flood, mist, or dry cutting setups

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard 5/8-inch end-mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling systems. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys as designated by material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Part of the SECO SPC408 series.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the holder. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the retention screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.001-inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut.
