The SECO 17016428 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life and wear resistance in demanding cutting environments. The 6-flute geometry provides a high feed-per-tooth capability and a smooth surface finish on finished passes. The 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with cutting stability. Qualified machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users. The 0.625-inch diameter and 1.625-inch length of cut make it suited for slotting and peripheral milling in medium-material applications.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The centercutting geometry allows plunge cuts in addition to conventional peripheral and slot milling. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for CNC vertical mills, knee mills, and machining centers running conventional toolholders and collets. It is sold as a single-end tool, meaning it is not reversible, and should be replaced or resharpened when cutting edge condition degrades.
Designed for use with standard 5/8-inch straight-shank toolholders, collet chucks, and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Rated for ISO workpiece material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (high-temperature alloys) per SECO Series SPC408 specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Torque the collet nut or set screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not use values not provided with the specific holder. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.001 inches before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; external flood or mist coolant should be directed at the cutting zone.
