The SECO 17016427 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (titanium carbonitride), it offers increased surface hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter runs a 4-flute, spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle and a right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. At 5/8 inch diameter with a 3-inch length of cut and 5-1/8 inch overall length, this tool suits both roughing and finishing passes on a standard knee mill or CNC machining center.
This end mill is rated for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The regular-length geometry and matched 5/8-inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style toolholders commonly found in job shop and production environments. The SPC408 series is targeted at shops requiring a general-purpose cobalt cutter with an upgraded TiCN coating for extended tool life over uncoated alternatives. A single tool ships per package, and the design does not include coolant-through capability or chipbreaker geometry.

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in a clean, properly sized toolholder and torque set screws or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and coating for chips or damage before mounting. Ensure the spindle and workholding are locked out or at a safe stop before any tool change, and verify runout at the tip does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0010 inches after installation.
