The SECO 17016426 is a single-end square end mill from the SPC408 long series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop and production environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 5/8 inch diameter, 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals across general machining, job shop, and production settings.
The 17016426 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its long length of cut — 2-1/2 inches — makes it appropriate for deep-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling operations where a standard-length end mill falls short. The SPC408 series targets ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S, covering the broadest range of common workpiece materials encountered in production and maintenance machining. No coolant-through capability; flood or mist coolant is applied externally.
Designed as a direct-mount replacement or standard tooling selection for any machine tool spindle accepting a 5/8 inch shank end mill, including vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual bridgeport-style machines using compatible collet chucks or end mill holders.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the recommended grip depth and torque the retaining nut or set screw per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches.
