The SECO 17016421 is a single-end square end mill designed for metal removal in milling operations across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with spiral fluting. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry, making it suitable for slot milling, profiling, and ramp entry operations. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians working in job shop or production environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It fits standard 0.5-inch collet chucks and milling tool holders used on vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as manual knee mills. The regular-length geometry and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration make it a common choice for conventional and climb milling setups in both production and maintenance machining contexts.
Designed for use in standard 0.5-inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys per SECO material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
A licensed machinist or qualified tooling technician should install and set this end mill following shop-standard tool-holding procedures. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Torque the collet nut or set screw to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting — the maximum TIR for this tool is specified at 0.001 inches.
