The SECO 17016419 is a single-end, 6-flute cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3.25-inch overall length, making it suitable for side milling, slotting, and profiling operations. The spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. Installation and use are performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 17016419 is a Series SPC408 end mill rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. The TiCN coating extends tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials such as stainless steel and high-temp alloys. The 0.5-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles sized for 1/2-inch shanks. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC vertical and horizontal milling setups. No coolant-through feature is present, so external flood or mist coolant is recommended when cutting harder materials.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and side-lock holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per Series SPC408 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing tooling from any holder. Verify holder runout against the TIR maximum of 0.001 inches prior to operation to maintain dimensional accuracy and tool life. Confirm workpiece material, depth of cut, and feed rate are within the recommended parameters for cobalt tooling before beginning a cut.
