The SECO 17016414 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding shop and production environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat dissipation, this tool handles a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/2 inch length of cut, and an overall length of 3-1/4 inches. The single-end, center-cutting design allows plunge entry as well as peripheral milling. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral fluting at a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and stable tool engagement.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its long-series length classification makes it appropriate for applications requiring additional reach beyond standard-length tooling, such as deeper pockets, stepped features, or workpieces with obstructed setups. It is a common choice for manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills running ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces in job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for applications within the SECO SPC408 series. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys as specified by the manufacturer.
This end mill is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in standard ER, TG, or side-lock collet systems accepting a 3/8 inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the tool. Verify runout does not exceed the manufacturer TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches after clamping. Select feeds, speeds, and depth of cut based on the workpiece material and machine rigidity; consult the applicable cutting data tables for cobalt tooling on the target material grade.
