The SECO 17016409 is a single-end square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 5/16 inch in diameter with a 3/4 inch length of cut, a 3/8 inch shank diameter, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. With four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle and a centercutting geometry, it handles both peripheral milling and plunge operations. This tool belongs to SECO Series SPC408 and is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians on manual or CNC milling equipment.
The 17016409 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and other non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. Its short-length classification makes it a stable choice for slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling where rigidity is a priority. The TiCN coating extends tool life in abrasive and interrupted-cut conditions. Typical applications include production and job-shop work on vertical mills, machining centers, and knee mills where a 3/8 inch collet or end mill holder is used.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute end mill for milling machines and machining centers accepting a 3/8 inch shank, within SECO Series SPC408 short-length square end mill applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with end mill toolholding practices. Secure the shank fully into a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-style holder before use, and verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0010 inch. Never exceed the rated depth of cut for the diameter or use a worn holder that could allow slippage under cutting loads. Confirm all spindle and axis locks are released before powering the machine.
