The SECO 17016408 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a TiCN coating that improves surface hardness and extends tool life in demanding cutting applications. The cutter measures 0.2812 inches (9/32 inch) in diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut, a 0.375-inch shank diameter, and a 2.4375-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool from the SPC408 short series, suited for machinists and tool-and-die professionals running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys.
This end mill fits standard milling operations in job shops, production machining environments, and maintenance shops. Its centercutting geometry allows both peripheral and plunge cutting in a single setup. The short flute length and rigid shank configuration make it a practical choice for side milling, slotting, and profiling operations on machining centers and manual knee mills. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys (material codes P, M, K, N, S).

A licensed machinist or qualified toolroom technician should mount this end mill using a properly sized 3/8-inch collet or end mill holder, torquing to the machine manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before first use — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Power down and lock out the spindle before installing or removing any cutting tool. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements when operating milling equipment.
