The SECO 17016407 is a single-end square end mill ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating. It carries a 0.25-inch cutting diameter, a 1.75-inch length of cut, and a 0.375-inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 3.5625 inches. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration at a 30-degree helix angle delivers efficient chip evacuation and a stable cutting edge. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as side milling. Machinists and toolroom operators use this end mill in both manual and CNC machining centers for precision metal removal.
This end mill is rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The TiCN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, making it well suited for higher-speed passes on alloy steels and stainless grades where uncoated tooling wears prematurely. The regular-length body keeps overhang manageable for general-purpose pocket milling, slotting, and peripheral profiling in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit toolholders on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and similar CNC or manual equipment running right-hand rotation. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per Series SPC408 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or holder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge with a dial indicator before commencing the cut; this tool carries a maximum TIR of 0.001 inch.
