The SECO 17016402 is a single-end, four-flute square end mill designed for precision material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metal cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutting diameter is 0.1562 inches (5/32 inches), with a 0.5 inch length of cut and a 3/8 inch shank diameter. The 30-degree spiral helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. This end mill is installed and run by machinists and CNC operators in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole. Its compact 2.375 inch overall length and 3/8 inch shank make it a practical choice for close-tolerance work in milling machines and machining centers where shorter tool projection reduces deflection. Series SPC408 tooling is targeted at demanding materials where standard HSS tooling falls short.
Compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S). Designed for use in any milling machine or machining center with a 3/8 inch collet, end mill holder, or compatible toolholder. Part of the SECO SPC408 series.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, ensuring full and even engagement to minimize runout. Confirm spindle and toolholder are clean and free of debris before mounting. Always set the machine to a safe state and verify zero spindle speed before changing tooling.
