The SECO 17016401 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 4-flute spiral design with a 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and improved surface finish. At 0.125 inches in cutting diameter with a 0.375-inch length of cut, this tool is suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations in tight geometries. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry, and features right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. Installed by machinists and toolroom professionals, it fits standard 3/8-inch collet or end mill holders.
The 17016401 is part of SECO Series SPC408 and is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The TiCN coating makes it particularly well-suited for harder steels and abrasive workpiece materials where uncoated cobalt tooling would wear prematurely. Typical applications include CNC vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines where a small-diameter, high-performance end mill is required for close-tolerance work.
Designed for use in 3/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, or set-screw holders on standard CNC and manual milling machines. Confirmed compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Clean the collet bore and tool shank before seating to prevent runout; the maximum TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches. Follow the machine manufacturer torque specifications for collet nuts and set-screw holders — do not rely on feel alone when securing small-diameter end mills.
