The SECO 17016383 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for material removal in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 1.125 inches in diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut and a 1-inch shank diameter, giving it a compact stub-length profile suited to rigid setups. With a 2-flute, right-hand spiral configuration at a 30-degree helix angle and centercutting geometry, it is capable of plunge entry and full-slot milling operations. Machinists and toolroom operators running manual or CNC milling equipment are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is intended for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes P, M, K, and S. Its stub length-of-cut range of 1.5 to 2 inches makes it appropriate for applications where tool deflection must be minimized and where shorter overhangs improve surface finish and dimensional accuracy. It fits standard milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill adapters accepting a 1-inch straight shank. The TiCN coating reduces built-up edge and extends tool life when cutting abrasive or work-hardening materials.
The SECO 17016383 belongs to the SP205 series and is designed for use in standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 1-inch straight shank. It is rated for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly torqued in the tool holder before operation. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged TiCN coating or chipped flute can cause rapid tool failure and poor surface finish.
